Mayank Yadav
Upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy to be played in Australia in later part of November will be a tough challenge for the Indian team.
The team management has kept a close eye on veteran pacer Mohammed Shami who has just recuperated from an injury. It is not yet certain whether Shami will be fit in time or not.
Meanwhile, talented speedster Mayank Yadav has been included as a reserve bowler in the Indian team for the ongoing Test series against New Zealand at home. Mayank had impressed one and all by clicking the 150 kmph mark regularly and putting the batters in trouble in Indian Premier League 2024.
Former Australia great Brett Lee is also highly impressed with the lanky Indian pacer. According to Lee, India should include Mayank in the squad for the high profile Border-Gavaskar Trophy if Shami does not recover in time.
“The great thing is with me that I get to work on the IPL and see a lot of good young Indian cricketers. Mayank Yadav, to watch his first IPL game recently, to hit a 157 kmph first up in his first game. Unfortunately, his franchise probably brought him a little early and he did his side again,” said Lee during a recent interaction.
“The great thing about India is that they are not worried about how much cricket someone has played or hasn’t played, if he (Mayank) is ready to go, get him in there. I actually love that theory. I can tell you that batters are okay when you bowl that 135-140 kmph speed, but when you bowl high 150s, I don’t care who it is, no one wants to face that. He (Mayank) looks like someone who is complete package, if Mohammed Shami is not ready, at least get him in the squad. I think he would do pretty well on these Australian wickets,” he added.
