The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced the Indian squad for the next two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

The selectors have removed opener KL Rahul as the vice-captain of the squad. However, the struggling batsman has managed to retain his place in the team.

Rahul received the backing of captain Rohit despite his poor batting performance in the first two Tests. However, the right-handed batter will no more be Team India’s deputy skipper in the longest format of the game.

Earlier, Rohit said that the team may stick with the struggling batsman or any other talented player who has the potential to perform in the long run.

Notably, Rahul had a forgettable series so far. In the second Test match against Australia that concluded today in Delhi. Rahul just managed 17 and one in the first and second innings respectively.

Several fans criticised Rahul’s selection in India’s playing XI despite his repeated failures. They demanded that many talented cricketers are getting neglected by giving Rahul several chances.

Struggling Rahul has been in ominous touch since January 2022 with his last century coming against South Africa way back in December 2021.

Former India medium fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad was also severe on Rahul’s inclusion in the team. He alleged favoritism in giving too many chances to Rahul and neglecting other players.
