Team India’s humiliating defeat to Australia in the 2023 World Cup Finale has sparked a lot of debate on Hitman Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. While a section of sports lovers are in awe of his captaincy after India’s consecutive 10-matches win in the World Cup, others are being critical of him for playing irresponsibly in the crucial final game against Australia.

He was in terrific form and could have played sensible and responsible shots as India was losing wickets. However, he is accused of playing an insensible shot and losing his wicket that too for a non-bowler like Maxwell’s spin.

Meanwhile, former India opener Gautam Gambhir has come out in Rohit Sharma’s defence and said that a bad game doesn’t make Rohit Sharma a bad captain.

“One bad game doesn’t make Rohit Sharma or this side a bad team. Ten games and the way they dominated the whole tournament. Just because of one bad game if you call Rohit Sharma a bad captain, this is not fair,” Gambhir stated during ANI podcast with Smita Prakash.

He further added, “In captaincy, Rohit Sharma has done a wonderful job. It is not easy to win five IPL trophies. The way India have dominated in the last 50-over World Cup, irrespective of the World Cup final result, India played like a champion side,” he added.

The former batsman further stated that he thinks that Rohit Sharma should lead the Indian team in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup.
