Amid the ongoing campaigns for the ensuing Odisha Panchayat polls, supporters of the ruling BJD allegedly damaged the vehicle of Congress Zilla Parishad candidate Lipika Majhi at Chandrapur under Papadahandi block in Nabarangpur district on Sunday.

Lipika, who is the daughter of former Congress MLA Bhujabala Majhi, has lodged a written complaint in this regard at Papadahandi police station.

As per the allegation by Congress workers, BJD supporters threw stones at Lipika’s vehicle while she along with the party supporters were campaigning at Chandrapur village. The vehicle has been partially damaged in the attack.

The Congress workers have demanded stringent action against the culprits. “BJD goons attacked us during our campaigning and damaged my vehicle by throwing stones. This kind of brutal act by the ruling party workers is not at all acceptable. They have crossed all the limits. We demand stringent action against the culprits,” said Lipika.

“Voters of the constituency have watched the hooliganism of BJD. They will give the right answer in the upcoming election by voting for Congress candidates,” she said.

Meanwhile, Bhujabala Majhi alleged that the BJD workers attacked their campaigning vehicle in an act of revenge.

“The BJD supporters were distributing clothes to influence the voters in the area. When we opposed it and lodged a complaint against them in the police station, they attacked us in an act of vengeance,” said Bhujabala.

Comments of BJD leaders or police could not be obtained on the allegations.
