As many as nine people were arrested by Jajpur police on Saturday for their alleged involvement in poll violence during the first and second phase of the three-tier Panchayat elections.

As per police sources, the miscreants were arrested for indulging in violence and thereby disrupting the electoral process. All the nine accused will be produced before a local court today.

So far, a total of 28 people have been arrested in poll-related violence in Jajpur district alone. 

On the other hand, Jagatsinghpur police also arrested at least five miscreants in Patsara area for allegedly interrupting the voting exercise through violence. 

All the accused were involved in the poll violence at booth number one and two of Patsara during the second phase of Panchayat elections on Friday. Sources said, the miscreants ransacked furniture and other items in one of the booth while some others decamped with the ballot box from the polling officers in the other booth.

Similarly, two miscreants were arrested at Nathasahi in Pali village for attacking security personnel during the second phase of polling.
