Two die after being hit by train engine near Odisha’s Rayagada

Two men lost their lives after a test train engine hit them between Rayagada and Singhpur railway stations late on Wednesday night.

The deceased belonged to Debadalguda village in Rayagada district.

As per reports, the deceased were sitting on the third railway track which is being laid between Rayagada and Koraput when a test train engine hit them near Singhpur killing them on the spot.

Tension prevailed in the area following their deaths as hundreds of local villagers demonstrated at the spot demanding compensation for the families of the deceased.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Railway Safety Commissioner visited the newly-built railway track on Wednesday to inspect the work.

Neither the police nor the Railway authorities have commented anything in this connection yet.

Earlier, a body of a home guard was found on the tracks just 50 metres from Rayagada railway station on December 18, 2023. He was on duty at the residence office of Rayagada SP.

Sources said he had a cut mark on his neck.
