Two class 10 students drowned in a pond at Pokhariput area in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Subham Jena and Prakash Maharana.

According to a source, Subham and Prakash along with five other students had gone to the pond to immerse Lord Ganesh’s idol they had installed at their tuition. All were Class X students.

While bathing, the duo drowned, claimed an eyewitness. However, they were immediately rushed to the Capital Hospital. But it was too late. The doctors there pronounced them received dead.

As the news broke, family members and relatives arrived at the hospital and the parents of the children were seen crying inconsolably. Back at the village, a pall of gloom descended.

“Seven children, all reading in Class X, had gone to the pond to immerse Lord Ganesh idol of their tuition. Reaching at the pond, they might have wished to take a bath. They allegedly climbed onto a wall and jumped into the water, leading to the mishap,” said a local resident.
