Weeks after diarrhoea and cholera played havoc in Rourkela claiming over 15 lives, the water-borne disease was reported from the Athagarh area of Cuttack district. As many as 10 people were affected by diarrhoea at Dalua Baunsatangar village.
As per reports, eight of the affected belong to a single family. All the affected were admitted to the Athagarh hospital.

Brahmananda Bhujabal, one of the affected, said, ”We had taken normal food last evening. At night the problem started. All my family members one by one had loose motions, vomiting and fever.”

Sanjita Bhujabal, another affected said, “We use the water from a well. All were affected by diarrhoea, vomiting and fever. We had taken normal food as usual. The water we are using from the well could be the reason for the diarrhoea.”

Doctor Manas Ranjan Pani said that the affected were discharged after treatment as they recuperated. He added that diarrhoea was the outcome of drinking contaminated water from a well in the village.
