The two under-trial prisoners (UTPs), who escaped from Titilagarh sub-jail on Saturday night, still remain untraceable, exposing severe lapse in security measures. Even as almost a week has passed, the police have failed to nab them.

Meanwhile, pictures of the two UTPs feasting with the jail authorities have gone viral on social media platforms. The two prisoners – Sumit Kumar Bihari and Susobhan Rana, had participated in a celebration with the jail authorities before their escape, sources said.

Furthermore, the jail superintendent has been accused of employing the two to do his household chores. Apart from this, the jail authorities also reportedly assigned them computer-related work inside the jail campus. Taking advantage of this, the duo is said to have scaled the wall of the jail and escaped.

Meanwhile, speaking to media, Sambalpur Jail DIG Kulamani Behera came down heavily on the jail superintendent and jailor for the lapses and held them responsible. He also hinted of taking serious action against the jail superintendent and jailor for the security lapse.

On the other hand, the senior jail officials are trying to save themselves by putting the blame on the jail warden and suspending him. Meanwhile, senior lawyer Pramod Kumar Mishra, in a brief conversation with OTV said that it is against the law to engage the UTPs in personal work.

“It is against the law to engage them in personal works. The jail authorities should have taken the court’s order. This clearly seems like a case of contempt of court,” Mishra said.
