The Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar may soon be privatised.

As per reports published in some sections of national media, as many as 11 airports across the country may be privately managed soon. The reports stated that among the 11 airports, Bhubaneswar, Indore, Raipur and Trichy airports are likely be privatised.

As a result, efforts will be made for the development and augmentation of these airports. The airports that are incurring losses will be given priority for privatisation.

On the basis of profit and loss, a list of the airports will be made and accordingly, bidding will be done. If a company takes over an airport making profit, it also has to take responsibility of an airport incurring loss.

However, the final decision regarding the elaborate bidding process will be taken in the cabinet meeting.

Notably, BPIA is a profit-making airport and the air traffic is gradually increasing here. Adani Group is reportedly leading the race to take over BPIA.

As per sources, the infrastructure of BPIA will be developed after privatisation and it will be better managed. Though the price of air travel will increase a little bit, the passengers will get better facilities.a
