3 members of a family injured in deadly attack in Kendrapara

As many as three members of a family were injured after being allegedly attacked by some miscreants near Bhuinpur Square under Aul Police station in Kendrapara on Saturday.

The victims have been identified as the family members of Sukant Rout who is a resident of Madhuban village and a contractor by profession.

The injured were initially admitted to nearby Aul Hospital. Later, they were shifted to SCB Medical College and hospital for further treatment.

As per the allegation by Sukant, his brother Prashant was waiting for him near Bhuinpur Square after withdrawing Rs 2 lakh from the nearest bank for labour payment. However, as many as six youths including Santosh Padhihari from Nial village asked him to give Rs 5 lakh. When Prashant refused to give the amount, they threatened and abused him. They also launched an attack on his brother and other family members and in the process three among them were severely injured.

Sukant has lodged a complaint in this connection at Aul Police Station.

"After withdrawing Rs 2 lakh from the bank for labour payment, my brother was waiting for me near Bhuinpur square. The miscreants hurled abuses at him and launched a deadly attack on him and some of my family members with sharp-edged weapons. After being informed about the incident, when I reached the spot, they forcefully took away Rs 5 lakh from me," alleged Sukant

However, in response, Santosh Padhihari and others have brought counter allegations against Sukant that he along with his associates launched an attack on them near Bhuinpur square.

"Sukant along with his brother and other associates hurled abuses at us near Bhuinpur square. When we opposed them, they launched an attack on us," said Santosh.

No comment was received from police.
