The Opposition BJD on Monday launched a fierce attack on the ruling BJP over its poll-time promise to waive of 300 units of electricity from July 5.

BJD MLA Pratap Deb said, “Before the general elections, we promised in our manifesto that consumers won’t have to pay electricity bills for the first 100 units from July 1. If voted to power, our Chief Minister would sign it first. At that time, the BJP also told that they would waive off 300 units from July 5.”

“Today is July 1. We hope the government will keep its promise. They should not renege on their promise,” said Deb.

In response to the BJD’s statement, BJP state president Manmohan Samal said, “I don’t know whether he has read our ‘Sankalp Patra’ properly or not. In our ‘Sankalp Patra’, we said our government would provide a subsidy of Rs 75,000 to consumers to install solar panels on their rooftops. They (consumers) would use the generated electricity for free. If they have any surplus electricity, the government would buy that. For your clarification, PM Modi always walks the talk.”

The state government will implement it after the Union budget, the BJP said.
