Rahul gets discharged from hospital, to meet Janjgir Champa collector

Rahul Sahu, 11, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chhattisgarh Bilaspur after being rescued from an 80-ft deep borewell at Pihrid village in Malkharoda block of Janjgir Champa district of Chhattisgarh after a 104-hour-long operation on June 14, got discharged from hospital on Saturday.

According to sources, Rahul will meet the collector of Janjgir Champa district before heading towards his village Pihrid. Rahul would be carried in a procession to reach his home. Villagers are now eagerly waiting for Rahul to felicitate him. Now, preparations are in full swing at his village to cherish Rahul’s return at his village.

Rahul while playing had fallen into an 80-foot-deep abandoned borewell in the Phirid village of Janjgir-Champa district on June 10. 

Chief Executive Officer of the hospital said, “When Rahul was brought to the hospital after being rescued from the borewell, he had infection and injuries. Also, Rahul was suffering from pneumonia as half of his body was submerged in water for five days inside the borewell. We were doubtful whether he would respond to treatment or not. A special team including paediatricians, physiotherapists and dieticians was formed to cure Rahul. We often took the advice of expert doctors so that Rahul would recover quickly. We are really happy to see Rahul recovered completely.”

Notably, a massive operation was launched by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Odisha, state disaster response force (SDRF) and Indian Army jawans to rescue Rahul from the borewell.  A robotics team from Gujarat was also part of the rescue operation. Following his rescue, Chhattisgarh government heaped praise on the NDRF team of Odisha for playing a pivotal role in rescuing Rahul.
