The Odisha Vigilance Department sleuths carried out searches at the multiple properties linked to Nihar Ranjan Dandpat, posted as a constable in the District Police Office at Baripada in Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday.

The searches are being carried out following allegations of possession of disproportionate assets by Nihar. The searches are currently underway by several Vigilance teams comprising 9 DSPs, 5 Inspectors, 5 ASIs and other personnel at seven different locations including residence and other properties associated with the constable.

The locations include Nihar’s residential house at Bhanjpur in Baripada town, government quarters at Police Line, his parental house at Badasahi and the residence of his relative at Chhend Colony, Rourkela. Two commercial places, Hota Enterprises at Purna Chandrapur in Baripada and Hota Enterprises at Murgabadi, are also being searched, Vigilance sources revealed.

Senior Vigilance officials said evidence regarding the constable running a Gas Agency (Hota Enterprises) have been found. The gas agency was registered in the name of Nihar's wife. During search, 350 filled in LPG Gas cylinders and 543  empty cylinders have been found.

The anti-corruption wing has also found that Nihar was also involved in transportation business. As many as  19   vehicles  including 3 trucks (all Ashok Leyland), 10 trolley Autos,  2 cars (1 Volkswagen and 1 Duster ), 4 bikes have been detected so far. He was also running a Computer business - Cyber Outlook at Ambika Temple area in Baripada and the stock verification is underway.
