The Vigilance sleuths recovered demonetised currency worth Rs 35,000 from the residence of Rusinath Barla, Assistant Executive Engineer (RD Division), Ranpur in Nayagarh district who was arrested in connection with a disproportionate assets case on Friday.

Besides, the sleuths of the anti-corruption wing have also detected assets to the tune of Rs 2.7 Crore which amounts to nearly 397 percent more than his known sources of income, the Vigilance said in a release.

On Thursday, four teams of the Odisha Vigilance led by an equal number of DSsP, 8 Inspector rank officers had conducted raids at multiple locations linked to the Assistant Executive Engineer in Khordha, Nayagarh and Dhenkanal districts.

Assets Detected:

- 1 triple storeyed building at Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar

- 1 single storeyed building at village Sadangi, Dhenkanal.

- 9 plots including 7 plots in Sadangi, Dhenkanal district

- 1 plot at Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar and 1 plot at Gothpatna, Bhubaneswar

- Bank deposits of over Rs.44.73 lakh

- Insurance deposits of over Rs.13.42 lakh

- Gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs.9.04 lakh

- Cash of Rs.1,30,000 and other movable and immovable properties, totalling to over Rs 2.51 Crore have been unearthed during the house search.

“ After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Rusinath Barala, Asst. Executive Engineer were calculated and he was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs 2,70,05,496 which constituted 397 per cent of his known sources of income” the Vigilance release read.
