In a bid to start silver cladding of the Kalahata gate of Srimandir in Puri, 500 kg of silver was transferred from treasury house to Neeladri Bhakata Niwas under tight security on Saturday.

As per the decision of Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (STA) sources, Kalahata dwara will be decorated with silver during the upcoming Rath Yatra when the deities will be on a nine-day visit to Gundicha temple.

“The precious metal has been shifted to Neeladri Bhakata Niwas temporarily within tight security. The silver cladding of Kalahata dwara will be completed during the Rath Yatra period as per the wish of Lord Jagannath,” said STA administrator Ajay Jena.

Earlier in November 26 last year, the precious metal was shifted from the strong room to the treasury house as per the order of Puri Collector.

Earlier, the silver cladding work of seven out of eight doors of Lord Jagannath temple has been completed.

Silver sheets with intricate designs have been installed on the gigantic seven wooden doors-Jay Vijay Dwara, Beherana Dwara, Adi Nursinha temple, Bimala temple, Mahalaxmi temple and Sata Pahacha Dwara.

Nearly two tons of silver have been used for the silver cladding work at Puri Jagannath temple. A devotee from Mumbai has donated around 1300 kg of silver for the purpose.
