Even after 10 years have elapsed to the inauguration of Jagatsinghpur bus stand, the bus terminal is yet to be made functional.

The bus stand, which was built at the cost of Rs 80 lakh, is lying in state of dilapidation thanks to lack of maintenance. Also, wild shrubs have grown on market complex making the place untidy. Besides, public toilets constructed at the bus stand are in disarray.

Meanwhile, locals have alleged that they are facing difficulties as the nearest bus stand is three kilometres away from the district headquarters.

However, municipality executive officer refused to make any comments in this connection.

Local MLA and district project committee chairman, on the other hand, said, "A master plan has already been prepared for the said project and it will be implemented soon."

Local resident Nilu Mitra said, "Public money worth more Rs 80 lakh was spent for the construction of bus stand, but the terminal is yet to see the light of the day. Owing to lack of cooperation between the district administration and bus owners, the terminal is lying unused at the headquarters. Despite repeated pleas to the authorities, it is yet to take a call on it. More sadly, no buses even stop at the terminal."

Upon being asked, Jagatsinghpur legislator Prashant Muduli said, "A master plan was proposed to come up with an administrative colony there.  Once offices are shifted there as per the plan, people can get buses from the terminal."
