Cuttack: Police on Saturday arrested two persons in connection with the twin death case of a mother and child whose charred bodies were found near a Temple premises in Khalarda village on the outskirts of the city here on Friday morning.

Husband of the woman Subodh Jena and his elder brother Sukant were arrested on charges of murder and were forwarded to court from where they have been remanded in jail custody, said the local police inspector Ranjit Prusty.

The charred bodies of 25-year-old housewife Sandhyarani and her two-year-old son were recovered from near the temple where the police had also found a kerosene jar and match box.

Ever since the death of mother-son duo, the woman`s in-laws, including her husband were absconding. While Subodh claims that all his family members are innocent and his wife might have committed suicide after killing the son, the police have registered a case under section 302 of IPC against Sandhyarani?s in-laws following a complaint lodged by the woman`s brother.

"Since Subodh and his brother are denying the charges and there is no circumstantial evidence to establish their guilt, we would be able to make any progress in the investigation only after getting the autopsy report," Prusty said adding that the parents-in-law of the deceased woman are still at large.
