Rare flying snake rescued from house in Odisha’s Koraput

Panic gripped residents of Gauda Sahi in Jeypore town of Koraput district on Tuesday morning after a rare snake was spotted inside a bathroom of a local resident’s house.

The unusual reptile, later identified as a Flying Snake, scientifically known as ornate flying snake (locally known as Udanta Chiti Sapa), was first noticed by the house owner, who immediately alerted neighbours. Following the incident, a rescue team was called to the spot.

The team carefully captured the snake and confirmed its identity as a rare, non-venomous species known for its gliding ability. Forest officials, including senior staff from the Jeypore forest division, supervised the rescue operation.

After ensuring the reptile’s safety, the snake was released into a nearby protected area in the presence of forest authorities.

Wildlife experts said the appearance of the flying snake in human habitations is uncommon but not unusual, as the species often moves in search of food or shelter.
