Summertime is very hot in India. As the temperature soars, everyone wants to just stay in the AC, take cold showers and drink chilled water and cold drinks. You must keep yourself hydrated in summer and drink juices and herbal drinks.

When heat waves hit the city, you are bound to get exhausted and automatically feel like drinking chilled water or switching on the air conditioner.

However, there are certain practices of cooling down that can be harmful to your health.

Cold showers should be avoided with those with weaker immune systems

Bathing with cold water makes you feel awake especially when it is summertime. Cold showers increase heart rate, blood pressure as well as respiration rate. If taken regularly and for a long period of time it increases the metabolism rate and leads to weight reduction in some amount.

It improves the circulatory system and activates the immune system of the body. So cold showers have a lot of benefits.

However, health experts advise that cold showers should be avoided by people who have weaker immune systems or heart issues.

Most importantly, you should not take a cold shower immediately after coming from the sun as it cools the body temperature on the surface which confuses the thermal receptors of the brain thereby disrupting the natural process of dissipating heat through sweating.

Drinking chilled water

Drinking cold water is good for the circulatory system especially when you are doing the workout. Health experts say that it is important to stay hydrated irrespective of whether it is cold, hot, or water at room temperature.to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

However, drinking chilled water should be avoided as it leads to the contraction of blood vessels in the stomach thereby reducing blood flow and slowing down digestion.

Drinking chilled water can cause bloating , indigestion, and stomach cramps.

Getting in AC immediately after coming from outside

You should not get into an air-conditioned room immediately after coming from direct sunlight. The body should cool down gradually but if it is forced to cool abruptly then it goes into a shock and this leads to severe fluctuations in the temperature of your body.

In certain cases, it can be fatal and cause heatstroke or heat exhaustion. A few people may feel dizzy or faint because their blood pressure may become low due to such shock.
