  • High uric acid levels can lead to serious health complications.
  • Here are some natural ways to reduce elevated uric acid levels.

What you eat and drink decides the condition of your health. Abnormally high uric acid in the body can lead to serious kidney and liver issues and a disease called Gout.

Along with medications, avoiding certain foods and adding fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to your daily diet can go a long way in lowering uric acid levels.

Eating low-purine foods

Low-purine foods are extremely good for lowering uric acid. Some such foods include whole-grain rice, potatoes, fruits like apples, cherries, and bananas, peanut butter, and almost all types of nuts and fat-free or low-fat dairy products.

Drink coffee

Studies have shown that coffee reduces the serum uric acid levels in the body by competing with the enzymes that break down purines resulting in less production of uric acid. Simultaneously drinking coffee also accelerates the rate at which the body throws out uric acid.

Eat foods with more fiber

Add foods with more fiber to your daily diet. Fiber balances insulin and blood sugar levels and also increases satiety. Foods that are rich in fiber include oats, chickpeas, lentils, brown rice, quinoa, and pears.

Increase intake of Vitamin C

Some research suggests that boosting vitamin C intake in daily diet helps to lower uric acid. While more study is required to understand exactly how Vitamin C can reduce the uric acid level in the body, it is recommended that adding fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin C is indeed a good way to keep high uric acid levels in check.

Some of the common fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C include oranges, strawberries, kiwis, grapefruit, red and green peppers, cantaloupe, tomatoes, and broccoli.

Losing weight

Extra kilos around your waistline have been found to be the cause of elevated uric acid levels in many patients. Losing weight by following a proper diet and exercising daily can go a long way in achieving your fitness goals.
