It is a known fact that drinking alcohol in excess can deteriorate the health of the liver gradually. However, your liver can get damaged or diseased even if you do not drink alcohol. Eating junk and unhealthy foods especially deeply fried items can lead to the deposition of fat on the liver.

So, it is necessary that you should keep on detoxing the liver regularly and naturally with lifestyle changes.

Eating a plant-based, clean diet

You do not need a fancy diet to cleanse your liver. It is important to eat healthy, plant-based foods that are rich in nutrients, vitamins and devoid of saturated fats and chemicals. Avoiding junk food items and processed foods or even fortified meals is one step closer to keeping your liver healthy.

Focus on eating vegetables, whole grains, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans, and minimally processed oils such as coconut, avocado, or olive oil. If possible eat only sustainably raised fish, meats, and eggs.

Try intermittent fasting

Once you have balanced your nutrient-rich diet then it is time to master the timing when you eat. Intermittent fasting has been found to be great for liver detox. Research says that during fasting the liver cells produce more protein required to improve sugar metabolism thereby lowering the levels of GADD45β, which is a type of liver fat.

A 16-hour fast is the best way to introduce intermittent fasting in your lifestyle which has a window of only 8 hours for eating.

Milk Thistle

Milk thistle herbal supplements are extracted from the seeds of the milk thistle plant. It has both inflammatory and antioxidant properties that boost glutathione levels 12 which are called the master antioxidant.

Vitamin C

Antioxidants promote the health of the liver and support overall detoxification of the body. For proper cleansing of the liver, it is important to achieve antioxidant-oxidant balance in the body and that can be reached by increasing vitamin C which kills free radicals and promotes the regeneration of liver cells.

Sweat session

Liver detoxification occurs when toxins are flushed out of the body and new exposure to the toxins is avoided. Apart from stools and urine, the body flushes out toxins through sweating. Skin is considered to be the largest detoxification organ and hence, doing any activity that leads to sweat is good for cleansing the liver. Apart from exercise, taking a sauna bath, Epsom salt bath, or steam can also help to flush out the toxins.
