Maa Skandamata, one of the nine forms of Goddess Durga, is worshipped on the fifth day of the festival of Navratri. Goddess Skandamata is believed to be the Goddess of love and motherhood. Her complexion is Shubhra, which is pure white.

She is also known as Goddess Padmasana as she is seated on a lotus. The word ‘Skanda’ is also associated with the god Kartikeya, and Mata means a mother. Hence, she is known as the mother of God Kartikeya or Skanda. Skandamata Devi is caring and worship her, a devotee can be an achiever, prosper and have a content life.

Skandamata awards her devotees with salvation, power, prosperity, and treasures. It is beleived that she can grant oceans of wisdom even to most illiterate people.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also sought the blessings of Maa Skandmata on the fifth day of Navratri for the devotees and shared recital of prayers (stuti) of the Goddess.

The Prime Minister tweeted;

"नमामि स्कन्दमातरं स्कन्धधारिणीम्।

समग्रतत्त्वसागरामपारपारगहराम्॥

नवरात्रि की पंचमी तिथि पर देवी स्कंदमाता की पूजा का विधान है।

मां स्कंदमाता सभी के जीवन में नई स्फूर्ति का संचार करें। देशवासियों की ओर से उनका वंदन!"
