Newly elected Chief Minister (CM) Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday chaired a review meeting on the preparedness ahead of Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra and Snana Purnima in Puri. This year, the nine-day-long world-famous yatra of the Holy Trinity will be held on July 7.

The CM sought everyone’s cooperation for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Chariot festival that celebrates the annual journey of Lord Jagannath and his two siblings from the 12th-century Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple, their aunt’s home, some 2.5 kilometres away.

Also present at the meeting were Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena, Police DG Arun Sarangi and other senior officials.

“We apprised the honourable Chief Minister about the current status and steps being taken for a safe Rath Yatra. Another meeting will be held in this regard to discuss on the steps required for a peaceful chariot festival. The meeting will be held with the servitor brothers and also with the stakeholders,” informed Prithiviraj Harichandan.

“Our government is keen on protecting all the traditions and rituals of Lord Jagannath. The world-famous Rath Yatra should be celebrated peacefully with everyone’s cooperation,” he added.

Similarly, the Chief Secretary who was also part of the review meeting informed that the CM discussed a lot of matters including the readiness for Rath Yatra and Snana Purnima.
