Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 is running packed houses despite a huge challenge from Gadar 2. Although Pankaj Tripathi is the male lead, since Akki is the only big superstar in the movie, it is his star power that has drawn the audience to the theaters. The movie is dedicated to a genuine cause and although has been given an 'A certificate' many Akkiians are demanding that the movie should get a U or U/A certificate.

Over the years, Khiladi Kumar has done several movies that gave a strong social message. While he has continued doing his usual comedy and action movies, Akshay has also focused his attention on doing movies that promote strong moral values or suggest and support a positive change in society.

Oh My God

Released in 2012, Akshay played the character of Lord Krishna in Oh My God with Paresh Rawal playing the main lead supported by Mahesh Manjrekar and Mithun Chakraborty in important roles. As Krishna, Akshay Kumar tries to address the issues related to superstitions in the current times and to spread awareness about various religious faiths and rituals.

The movie starts with a typical love story between Akshay and Bhumi Pednekar but takes an unexpected turn when Bhumi as a bride of Akshay decides not to stay with him unless and until he installs a toilet in his house. Akshay’s father is strictly against it and the movie revolves around his fight to fulfilling this demand of his wife and through that he tries to create awareness about the need for better sanitation.

Padman

Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor featured alongside Akshay in this biopic of Arunachalam Muruganatham. The movie for the first time threw light on the taboo of using sanitary napkins in India. Akshay plays the character of Laxmi who understands the need of his wife to use sanitary napkins and from there tries to spread awareness about using it and even develops a cheap sanitary napkin so that even a small-town woman can use it.

OMG 2

Oh My God 2 is a sequel to Akshay’s OMG which was a blockbuster. In the sequel, he portrays a messenger of Lord Shiva while the lead is played by Pankaj Tripathi. The movie talks about the importance of creating awareness about sex education in young students when Pankaj Tripathi's son is thrown out of school for misconduct.
