A 23-year-old tea seller from Haryana has overcome all obstacles and financial challenges to secure a seat in India’s best universities.

With his hard work and determination, Himanshu Hooda has secured AIR-205 in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and has got offers for admission to IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore.

His remarkable journey of struggle to India’s prestigious universities is an inspiration for many.

Hailing from the rural village of Mungan, Himanshu’s family moved to Rohtak in 1990. His father Om Prakash Hooda ran a tea shop on the Rohtak-Sonipat route in Sector 3. Himanshu was a brilliant student from the beginning.

Despite financial constraints, Himanshu’s father left no stone unturned to bear the expenses of his studies. He worked day and night and struggled financially to provide his son with a good education.

After finishing his 10th and 12th, Himanshu started preparing for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced. However, he was not successful. Later, his father took a loan of Rs 15 lakh and helped Himanshu join YMCA Faridabad for a Bachelor of Technology.

However, Himanshu was keen on getting into IIT Bombay. His father even recalled how Himanhsu would write IIT Bombay on his home’s walls to constantly remind himself of his aim.

After completing his Bachelor of Technology, he decided to appear for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). He would help his father at his tea shop and prepare for the test during his free time.

Finally, his hard work paid off and he earned a 205 All-India Rank in the GATE. Interestingly, he was serving tea to his customers when the results came out.

Overjoyed with his son’s accomplishment, Himanshu’s father said that he has no complaints in his life now as his son has finally accomplished his life’s goal.
