In a daylight dacoity, miscreants looted over Rs3.5 lakh from an ATM and customer service point of State Bank of India (SBI) at Nilagiri in Balasore district on Thursday.

As per initial reports, 5 to 6 masked men first looted money from the ATM. The incident occurred between 12.47 pm and to 1pm. Sources said SBI kiosk owner was loading cash when the miscreants barged into the ATM.

Anil Ray, an eye-witness said, “After getting information about the robbery, we rushed to the spot. However, the miscreants threatened us with guns. The miscreants drove us away from the spot.”

Chandan Sahu, owner of the kiosk said, “I was loading cash in ATM when miscreants entered by lifting the shutter. Later, they held me hostage, beat me and looted the cash by breaking the ATM. Then the miscreants came inside the counter and took away the cash.”

According to Sahu, all the miscreants had their faces covered and they also assaulted some other staff and damaged equipment inside the bank kiosk.

“The miscreants have looted around Rs 3.5 lakh. Though nearly 30 to 40 persons were watching, nobody came to our rescue,” Sahu added.
