A youth allegedly bludgeoned his girlfriend with a piece of stone following a heated argument at Raidihi village in Mayurbhanj District, police said on Friday.

The deceased hailed from Sapanchua village under Khunta police station in the district.

As per reports, the accused, identified as Munu Tudu of Basipitha village, was in a relationship with the girl. They had gone to a relative’s house of the girl at Raidihi. 

A heated argument ensued between the pair over a trivial issue when the girl had gone to take bath in a river. Following the commotion, Tudu lost his cool and in a fit of rage repeatedly hit the head of the girl with a piece of stone. 

The girl suffered critical injuries in the attack and was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, the doctors declared her brought dead. The accused has also sustained critical injuries.

Upon being informed, Kaptipada police reached the spot and detained Tudu following his treatment. Police have started an investigation into the incident after registering a case.

“Both the youth and his girlfriend had assaulted each other. While the girl succumbed, the youth sustained serious injury in the process. We have detained the accused and he is being questioned in connection with the murder case,” said Kaptipada DSP Sarthak Roy.
