"Deepak demanded a cheque of Rs 1250/- as processing fees in favour of Dhanlaxmi Bank and also got the relevant papers. He gave his pen to complainant to fill up the details in the cheque. A week later, Singh checked the balance in his account and was shocked to find that an amount of Rs 4.10 lakh had been withdrawn by the same cheque. "During investigation, it was revealed that the cheque was encashed by altering the details in the cheque. Deepak Kumar and Deepu were arrested," Renganathan said. He said the gang leader and his woman friend and one more associate are still absconding.
They had watched a movie `Badmash Company` and wanted to make quick money through cheating and changed their original names. After the incident, Deepak flew to Mumbai and purchased a laptop and guitar and started playing guitar to gain entry into the Bollywood, he said.
