New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 27-year-old woman killed her three daughters and attempted suicide by hanging herself from a tree on Monday night here, police said.

The incident was reported from south Delhi's Ambedkar Nagar.

Police said the woman was depressed owing to taunts for not having a male child.

The incident was reported to police when a few people spotted the woman hanging from a tree in a jungle located behind Battra Hospital in Ambedkar Nagar around 8.30 p.m.

They also found her three daughters, aged eight months, three years and eight years, lying on the ground.

The woman, identified as Radha Devi, was rushed to a nearby hospital, along with her three daughters, where doctors declared her daughters brought dead.

Radha Devi has been referred to the Safdarjung Hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

"Radha Devi had called her husband Raju Singh before committing the crime, informing her intention. She was undergoing treatment for anxiety and depression," said a police official.

The woman told police that she was not happy because of the continuous taunts for not having a male child.

She first strangled her daughters and then, tried to commit suicide.

Police said further investigation was on.
