NHRC notice to Assam govt, to send own team
The Chief Secretary has been specifically asked to inform about the arrangements made for relief and rehabilitation of the affected people and the financial assistance given to the victims, an NHRC spokesperson said. The NHRC has also decided to send its own team to study the arrangements made by the state government for rehabilitation of the persons affected by the violence.
The team has been given four weeks time to submit a report to the Commission, the spokesperson said. Over 56 people were killed in the ethnic violence in Assam even as thousands have been rendered homeless with most of them taking shelter in government-run relief camps.
