New Delhi: Union Ministers and MPs on Monday faced the heat over the Lokpal issue when protesters staged demonstrations outside their homes in several parts of the country heeding Anna Hazare`s call to visit the elected representatives.

In the Capital, a dharna was staged by Hazare supporters in front of the residences of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, Delhi Chief Minister Dikshit and some MPs.

Sibal was among the first who had to face the ire of the protesters when around 40 people gathered outside his Teen Murti residence seeking his support for the Jan Lokpal Bill.

"Go to their residences... go sing Raghupati Raghav raja Ram, sabko sanmati de bhagwan," he had said yesterday while asking a cheering crowd at the Ramlila Maidan to start visiting their elected representatives` residences and stage demonstrations.

"We have come here to request Sibal to support the Jan Lokpal Bill. This is a good bill and everybody should support it," a protester outside Sibal`s Teen Murti residence said.

People also gathered outside the Talkatora residence of Mukherjee, who was member of the joint drafting committee on Lokpal Bill along with Sibal, and shouted slogans against the government.

Police was deployed in strength outside their homes. re

Protesters also staged demonstrations outside Dikshit`s Motilal Nehru Road residence. They shouted slogans against the Chief Minister and also referred to the CAG report on Commonwealth Games.

Protests were held outside the homes of BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, party MP Ashok Argal and Congress MPs Kamal Nath, Subodh Kant Sahay and J P Aggrawal.

Hazare`s associate Arvind Kejriwal said protesters, who were merely offering flowers to the MPs, were also detained in some cases as he criticised the treatment meted out to them.

"Can`t people go and meet the prime minister and ministers? Why are they being detained? They are going to talk to them, they are not going to kill them. Can`t we talk to our MPs?" asked Kejriwal.

In Mumbai, Congress MPs Priya Dutt and Sanjay Nirupam faced the ire of the protesters.

Dutt met the protesters and lauded them for taking up the fight against corruption. "I am with the people on the demand for a strong Lokpal and will convey the people`s sentiments in Parliament," she said.

When protesters went to the house of South Mumbai MP Milind Deora, now a Union minister of State, he was not there.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to his aide.

In Uttar Pradesh, there were protests outside the houses of Ghaziabad MP and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh, Samajwadi Party MP from Chandauli Ram Kisun Yadav and Congress MP Zafar Ali Naqvi in Lakhimpur.

In Chandigarh, protesters representing Team Anna staged a dharna near the residences of Union Parliamentary Minister Pawan Bansal.

In Haryana, Congress MP from Bhiwani Shruti Chaudhary and Union Minister Kumari Selja faced protests at Narnaul and Ambala respectively.

Chandigarh Administration imposed prohibitory orders banning assembly of five or more persons in front of five VIP residences, including that of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, located in different parts of the city.

The prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC. were imposed by the Additional District Magistrate within hours of Team Anna activists protesting outside Bansal`s home.

The orders would remain in force for four days till August 25, an official release said in Chandigarh.

Besides the home of Prime Minister, prohibitory orders were clamped outside the residences of Bansal, Sibal, Union Minister Ambika Soni and Congress MP Manish Tiwari.
