Four Maoists killed in encounter in Assam

Guwahati: Four suspected Maoists were killed and a police constable was critically injured in an encounter between the rebels and police force in a remote village of Assam`s Tinsukia district today, police said.

Acting on a tip-off about the presence of a group of Maoists at Deopani Borgora village Sadiya police station, police launched an operation in the area and in the ensued encounter four Maoists were killed and a police constable was seriously injured.

Search operations were continuing in the area and huge quantities of arms and ammunition were recovered from the area. The constable was identified a Achinta Das and he was being brought to the Assam College Hospital at Dibrugarh, police said.
