Dehra Dun: The Uttarakhand police has filed a chargesheet against software engineer Rajesh Gulati, who allegedly killed his wife Anupama and hid her body parts in a deep-freezer for nearly two months.

In the chargesheet, filed yesterday before a local court here, the motive behind Anupama`s murder has been described as the strained relations between the couple and alleged second marriage of Rajesh with Jhuma Dutta of Kolkata, Superintendent of Police G S Martolia told reporters here.

The 350-page chargesheet contains the names of 77 witnesses besides police case diary and findings of investigations corroborated with evidences, he said.

Martolia said the police would try to seek capital punishment for the accused as the crime committed by him was barbaric.

The murder of Anupama, 33, was unearthed on December 12 last year when her brother S K Pradhan lodged a report with the police after not getting a satisfactory reply from Gulati about his sister`s whereabouts.

When police arrested Gulati from his rented accommodation at Prakash Vihar locality here, he confessed to have strangled Anupama, cut her body into pieces and hid them in a deep-freezer for nearly two months.

Later, police also recovered some of her body parts from the foothills of Mussoorie which Rajesh had thrown earlier.

The couple had two twin kids, aged 4, and Rajesh had told them that their mother had gone to Delhi.

Besides, Anupama`s brother Pradhan, her landlord, neighbours, the shopkeepers from where electrical saw and deep-freezer was purchased and Rajesh`s alleged second wife Jhuma Dutta have also been made witnesses in the case.
