Ghaziabad: Supporters of Baba Ramdev with local leaders of Bhartiya Janta Party burned effigy of Congress leaders to protest on Monday against the crackdown by the government on yoga guru`s agitation in New Delhi.

In the last 24 hours, protests were held at Modinagar, Pilakhuwa, Hapur, Loni, Niwari, Garhmukteshwar, Faridnagar and other parts in the district.

Agitators signed memorandums to be submitted to the President of India, asking for the suspension of the Congress led UPA government.

Meanwhile, BJP led by its national vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi launched the protest campaign in Meerut against the Centre`s anti-democratic action against yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his followers yesterday.

BJP activists burned an effigy of Sonia Gandhi in the city. Several local party leaders were present during the protest.

Several religious leaders from different communities also supported Baba Ramdev`s anti-corruption dharna and condemned the police atrocities meted out against him and his followers.
