Bangalore: A total of 258 soldiers today took part in the passing out parade at the Madras Engineer Group and Centre of the Army here on completion of basic and field engineering training.The parade, reviewed by Major General Rakesh Bassi, Director General Combat Engineers, marks the culmination of one-and-half-year training of soldiers, a defence release said. Four contingents of smartly dressed soldiers marched proudly to the tunes of military band.

Speaking on the occasion, Major General Bassi exhorted the soldiers to imbibe not only the tradition of valour and sacrifice of the `Madras Sappers`, but also the modern day technology skills. He also presented trophies and medals to the sappers who excelled in the training.

Naik V. Sathish, a proud receipient of the coveted `Kirti Chakra` for his role in `Operation Black Tornado` carrying out intervention operation at Nariman House in Mumbai during November 26, 2008 terror strikes, was presented `Silver Salvar` trophy on this occasion, the release said.
