BJD Snatches Balasore Sadar Assembly Seat From BJP

Bhubaneswar: The counting of votes for the by-elections to Balasore Sadar and Tirtol Assembly constituencies in the state started from 8 am today. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the counting of votes amid strict adherence to the Covid-19 guidelines. Chief Electoral Officer S KLohani said the progress of the results will be announced after each round of counting is completed. As many as 15 candidates are in the fray for the by-election to the two seats. For the Balasore Sadar constituency, counting is being done at Balasore Collectorate, while counting for the Tirtol Assembly constituency underway at the SVM College premises, Jagatsinghpur.

BJD Snatches Balasore Sadar Assembly Seat From BJP

The ruling Biju Janata Dal in Odisha has won bypolls to the two assembly seats in the State. While the ruling party once again won the Tirtol seat, it snatched the Balasore Sadar seat from the BJP.

BJD Wins Tirtol Assembly Seat

BJD’s Bijaya Shankar Das won the by-polls in Tirtol by a margin of 41703 votes from BJP’s Rajkishore Behera. Das secured 88310 votes while BJP’s Rajkishore Behera got 46607 votes with Congress candidate Himanshu Bhusan Mallick garnering 28778 votes.

The BJD inched closer to victory in Balasore Sadar Assembly constituency as the latest trends show that the party is leading by a margin of 13,395 votes after the end of last round of counting.
