Want to balance Bollywood, Telugu cinema: Rana
The 27-year-old debuted in Bollywood alongside Bipasha Basu and Abhishek Bachchan in 2011 film "DMD". His next, a cop drama, has been directed by Ram Gopal Varma and is expected to hit screens in May.
"I am very happy that I have been accepted. It is great to be noticed in the big ocean of Hindi films. I see so many newcomers coming everyday, they shine once and go away.
Thankfully, it did not happen to me. I immediately got a bigger film `Department` which is an action film, a genre which I like very much," Rana told PTI.
The actor, who plays a cop in the film, says it was a difficult role to play because the character demanded a lot of subtlety. "My character`s name is Shiv Narayan in the film. Every word and every gesture that he has is very controlled. It is extremely intense. It is a completely clean and white character."
Meanwhile, Rana who started his career with Telugu film "Leader" in 2010, is awaiting the release of his next film down South. "I have not really moved away from Telugu. I have been constantly doing films. My next film "Naa Ishtam" with Genelia is out for release in the last week of March. It is a love story of a selfish man. There are only two truths in the world one is selfishness and the other is love and that`s what the story is about."
Rana, the grandson of veteran film producer D Ramanaidu, virtually grew up on a film set. He already had a body of work before he joined Bollywood, which has helped the actor a lot. "I have done comedy, action, political drama in my 5-6 films. I have played varied role and the advantage that I have is that I have not been typecast in an image."
Rana says being a part of film family, cinema felt like a normal job and gradually he educated himself into different aspects of film making. "For many people films may seem mysterious but because I was part of a film family, it felt like any normal job. I found myself more knowledgeable than others about it. I started working when I was 17. I have already produced a film. I also want to direct at some point of time. I feel I am still growing up in cinema."
Rana will begin shooting his next, "Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum", in Telugu. "`Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum` is an action film and I am looking forward to it. I play the character of B Tech Babu. He lives in a small place and is slightly more educated than others. It is about the journey of his life." He is also looking forward to do films in Tamil.
