Mumbai: After spending over a month in the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, veteran actor and BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha was discharged here on Sunday, after which was taken home by his wife Poonam Sinha.

The 66-year-old actor-turned-politician was admitted to the hospital in suburban Andheri on July 2, after he complained of breathlessness, following some painting work at his residence.

Later on, since blockages were discovered in his coronary arteries, Sinha underwent a bypass surgery on July 16 and also spent a day or two in the intensive care unit.

"He is absolutely fine. He got discharged today evening at 7.30 pm. He was supposed to be discharged 10 to 12 days ago after his surgery, but he chose to stay on, after he decided to go in for a cardio-respiratory rehabilitation programme. Instead of going home and coming back to hospital for the programme, he thought it was convenient to stay on in the hospital," Kokilaben Hospital`s COO Dr Ram Narain told PTI.

Sinha made his Bollywood debut in 1969 with `Sajan` and acted in over 200 Hindi films, besides some Bengali and Punjabi movies.

Known for his powerful dialogue delivery, some of his famous Hindi films include `Kalicharan`, `Vishwanath`, `Blackmail`, `Dostana`, `Shaan` and `Kala Patthar`. Later, he ventured into politics and is currently the BJP`s Lok Sabha MP from Patna Sahib in Bihar.
