Mumbai: Director Kiran Rao, who started her Bollywood career over a decade ago, has launched her own production banner to support new talent and present films that are good in quality.

Under this banner -- Kiran Rao -- she would be presenting films that are important and deserve to get a wider platform for their release, a statement issued by her publicist said here on Saturday.

Kiran, 39, would produce her first film 'Ship of Thesus' in July. Anand Gandhi will make his debut as director with this movie, the statement added.

When contacted the 'Dhobi Ghat' helmer confirmed that the development but declined to divulge more information.

Kiran has co-produced a few Hindi films in the past along with her actor-husband Aamir Khan.

The purpose of this production company is not to let good independent cinema remain in the confines of anonymity and ensure it finds a relatively wider release.

"Kiran is very excited about her new venture. She always likes to be part of creative process, especially if the content is good," the statement added.
