Mumbai: Renowned ghazal and bhajan singer Anup Jalota, who has been selected for Padma Shri, has said he is humbled by the honour and was thankful to the Government for recognising his work.

The 58-year-old singer has been chosen for the award for his contribution to Indian classical music. "I am happy. I am humbled and thankful to the Government of India for giving me this honour and recognising my work. I would also like to thank my fans for their love and support," Jalota told PTI.

Some of Jalota`s popular bhajans include `Aisi Lagi Lagan`, `Main Nahi Makhan Khayo`, `Rang De Chunariya` and `Jag Mein Sundar Hai Do Naam`. He has recorded over 1,500 bhajans, ghazals and songs.

To a question, the versatile singer said "I don`t think the award has come late. I feel there is a right time for everything."
