Khurda: Throwing an open challenge at the cops, unidentified miscreants Wednesday night looted at least six shops near Taratua Chhak in Sharadhapur area of Khurda district, one of which was located some ten meters away from the Khurda SDPO office.

The matter came to fore after locals spotted the shutter of the shops open this morning and informed the Town police station. Soon, police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.

“I reached the spot after getting information about the loots and found the shutter and cash box inside my shop broken. I have lodged an FIR at the police station,” said a local trader, Shiekh Salauddin.

Another trader Lalit Nayak said, “The Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP), Odisha Police and India Reserve Battalion (IRB) camps have been set up in the area, but despite these, loots are being carried out. We do not feel safe here.”

The exact amount of money and valuables looted from the shops are yet to be established. Further investigation is underway.
