Bhubaneswar: In a startling twist to the sensational double murder in Bhadrak, Police today clarified that the accused Babua Mohanty had killed Rabi Beuria and his wife to acquire Rs 2 lakh.
Speaking to newspersons, Bhadrak SP, B Gangadhar said Babua came to know about Rs 2 lakh their family had received after a settlement in some legal case a few days ago. The couple had deposited Rs 1 lakh in the bank and they kept the rest in their house out of which they had spent Rs 40,000. As the accused used to visit the family often, he hatched a plan to kill them all so that he can take the money.
Earlier today, however, Babua had confessed that he killed the couple to take revenge. He had said that he wanted to kill the couple since they had been troubling his parents.
According to the statement of the accused given to the police, he pushed Rabi into a canal after getting him drunk. He later killed Rabi's wife by attacking her with a stone pestle in their house.
The Police also said that the accused looted jewellery and cash from the house before fleeing Bhadrak.
He was arrested from Chandrasekharpur petrol pump in Bhubaneswar late Monday night.
