Cuttack: The Cuttack Malgodown Police nabbed notorious criminal Munu alias Manoj Swain after an encounter in the wee hours today. Sources said the accused is allegedly involved in the brutal attack on Damodar Bhawsinka, a city based trader.

According to reports, Damodar had sustained critical injuries on his neck after he was attacked on March 16. He was first admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Sources said police got vital clues regarding accused Manoj Swain's involvement after the victim identified him through some photographs of criminals.

Acting on a tip-off regarding accused Manoj Swain's presence, a team of Commissionerate Police raided Jobra area in the city at around 3 AM today. However, Manoj hurled crude bombs after seeing the police team approaching.

Three Police personnel including Inspector-in-charge of Malgodown Police Station, Rabi Narayan Bhanja has been injured in the incident. Senior officials informed that Manoj has also sustained a bullet injury on his left leg after the police team fired in self-defence.

Following the incident, Manoj was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital and is condition is said to be stable. Police sources said Manoj hails from Jagatsinghpur and is involved in a number of crimes including in the killing of gangster Sheik Suleman of Kendrapara in 2009.
