IIT-BBS to enhance student intake to 260 from July

Bhubaneswar: There is good news for technical education aspirants in Odisha: IIT-Bhubaneswar (IIT-BBS) has decided to increase its intake capacity from 180 to 260 from the next academic session beginning in July.

“Every year, about 180 B.Tech students pass out from the institute. However, from July onwards, the intake capacity will be enhanced by 30% to 260,” IIT-Bhubaneswar director R.V. Rajkumar said on the sidelines of the eighth foundation day celebration of IIT-Bhubaneswar at Argul here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the State government will provide all support to the national institute.

“IIT Bhubaneswar is steadily evolving as a top global institute in science and engineering. We expect this institute to be a technology partner in development initiatives of the State,” Patnaik said.

Higher Education minister Pradip Panigrahi, who was also present at the function, stated, “IIT-BBS will be one of the best institutes in the world. It will surely help in upliftment of poor section of the society and reach out to them with newly developed technology.”

Among others, Technical Education minister Sanjay Das Burma, Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Patsani and former Foreign Affairs secretary Lalit Mansingh attended the ceremony. Awards were also presented to meritorious students.

IIT-Bhubaneswar was established on February 12, 2009, with an intake of 120 students.
