Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Friday issued notices to the State and Union Governments seeking replies from them within eight weeks on a PIL which calls for imposition of total prohibition of liquor in Odisha.
 
After a preliminary hearing on the PIL, a division bench comprising Chief Justice A K Goel and Justice A K Rath issued the notices to all respondents named in the PIL.
 
Nine eminent persons of the state like social worker Tulasi Munda and former HC judge Choudhury P K Mishra filed the PIL.
 
The petitioners had also urged the High Court to pass an order directing the State Government to stop spread of liquor business completely by closing the liquor shops in a phased manner.
