Ganjam: A pall of gloom descended upon Kusapada village under Dharakote police limits in Ganjam after an elderly man and his son were found dead on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as Rajendra Panda (55) and his son Kalpabat (20). It is suspected that both committed suicide over some family dispute.

Sources said Kalpabat hanged himself after he was reportedly reprimanded by his father for watching Indian Premier League (IPL) and extensive use of mobile phone. Unable to bear the loss of his son, Rajendra subsequently too committed suicide by hanging himself.

Kalpabat was a meritorious student and studying in Aska ITI. However, as he was not paying attention to his studies and kept himself busy in watching IPL, his father had reportedly scolded him. Kalpabat ended his life by hanging himself from a jackfruit tree in the nearby bamboo jungle.

Holding himself responsible for the death of his son, Rajendra later ended his life as well, villagers informed.

On getting information, Aska police rushed to the spot and later sent the bodies to the Aska Community Health Centre (CHC) for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, further investigation in connection with the incident is on, senior police officials said.
