Bhubaneswar: The city forest division has seized large numbers of turtles from a private medical college and hospital campus here on Wednesday. The incident gave the officials jittery moments when they found the reptiles being cultivated in an artificial water body inside the campus.
According to sources, the illegal cultivation of turtles as per wildlife act came to limelight when the team acting on a tip off raided Hi-tech medical college campus and found the turtles in numbers. Efforts are being made by the forest officials to dry up the water body and recover the reptiles.
The administrative officer of the college has been detained in this connection. Last night two turtles were seized from a restaurant near Nalco square during a raid.
