Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Thursday directed the State government to extend the newly introduced City Bus Services of Bhubaneswar and Puri to Cuttack city and asked the Urban Development as well as Transport departments to take immediate measures for introducing "twin-city town bus services" between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

The direction came from the Division Bench of Justices B P Das and M M Das while adjudicating over the PIL pertaining to urban problems of the twin cities that is being monitored regularly by the High Court since 1997.

The Bench asked the government to ensure that at least 15 buses of the newly introduced bus services that are being run by private bus operators are plied between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar from March 31.

It may be mentioned here that the High Court had earlier asked the government to ensure that at least 40 town buses run between the twin cities.

But the government was non committal on it following which miscellaneous cases were filed urging the court to issue a fresh a directive to the government.
