Cuttack: The Odisha High Court on Wednesday gave an interim stay on the state government`s proposal to amalgamate the paediatric wing of SCB Medical College and Hospital with the Sishu Bhawan here.

A Division Bench of Justice B P Das and Justice Indrajit Mahanti taking up an affidavit filed by an advocate in pursuance to an earlier PIL ordered that the proposal to merge the two child healthcare units shall not come into effect without the leave of the court.

The High Court said admission of patients in the paediatric unit of SCB Hospital shall continue and no staff or doctors from the unit shall be transferred until further orders.

The State government had recently taken a decision to this effect which faced massive criticism from people in general and opposition political parties in particular. The Sishu Bhawan here is dogged with myriad inherent problems and patients from here are regularly referred to the SCB hospital.
